On the first of May 2013, at approximately 1:30 PM, our member and good friend Alex Leigh Sherman... Left us... To go on a Church Mission!
I'm guessing many of you thought this would be more tragic like a death or something? Nah, Shrew is the master of death. However, the three of us are still sad that Shrew has to leave us for two years. Due to this announcement from Shrew and the shock bestowed upon us, we had no time to put anything on our website, make podcast episodes, or even videos for that matter. No we instead took the very little time we had to be with Shrew before he left, no matter what stupid or horrendous things we did.
Shrew has always been a particularly smart person, knowing something as simple as solving a Rubik's cube and making perfect airplanes, to more extraordinary things like knowing every number in Pi or studying the true fate of Earth: the Yellowstone volcano. He was always a "go with a flow" guy who was never "too into this" or "too into that" and yet somehow seemed to make his own honest decisions.
Shrew met Tom through Church and also went to the same Elementary school and lived incredibly close by. It wasn't until around the 5th or 6th grade that the two truly became good friends. He then met Geoff during his first year in the Middle school era and the two kicked off their friendship strong. And while Shrew has known Taylor for about as long as he knew Tom, it wasn't until about five years ago that the two grew a friendship through what is now the GeekBeerz team. Shrew didn't only have us though, he had even more expanded friends and friendships from his school days and even those he worked with.
Shrew and Geoff both came up with the title "GeekBeerz" and both together basically started what is now something we cherish and (hopefully) our fans cherish as well. Shrew was always seen and respectfully acted as the right hand man, second in command, the other leader, etc. Sure we were all very good and close friends, but Shrew was friends with Geoff like how Tom is friends with Taylor which in a sense means the two had a create "friendly" connection (trying not to make this sound gay, but truth is truth lol).
Shrew would always help out with the website and editing the podcast episodes whenever and however he could. Even when he was a busy working manager at Culvers restaurant he still managed to do what he knew had to be done for GeekBeerz. He even gave in input to how his character designs should be portrayed in Tom's art, comics, stories, and merchandising. On GeekBeerz in particular, shrew was always seen with a blue shirt, orange shades, and much blonder hair than he had.
As respect to our friend, we will not give any details on where, when, or even why he left on this mission. All that everyone else needs to know is that Shrew will obviously not be gone forever. If we are to be correct, Shrew will be back by summer of 2015. No, we are not going to replace him with someone else. And no, we will not pretend that Shrew never existed on GeekBeerz, we will still have his bio on the website, we will still be able to listen to him from our past twelve-something podcasts, and we may give little updates here and there about his "adventures" during his absense.
We will miss Shrew, both as a friend and as a member, but GeekBeerz will still live on, and live on strong it will!
