WolfQuest Shutting Down

Five years ago, a little game made by a small group of programmers who work for the Minnesota Zoo. It showed how the wolves survived out in the wild, how they interacted with other wolves, and in later updates actually let you mate and take care of wolf pups. It was funded through grants provided by the National Wildlife Foundation and through people buying merch through their online store. The game was called "WolfQuest" and was kind of ambitious with updates every couple months, multiplayer servers, all while teaching you about wolves without coming out and saying, "Here's a biology lesson!"

Now jump ahead to just a couple days ago when this email was sent out:
As of today, it’s been five years since WolfQuest, episode 1 was released,
and wow, it’s been an amazing journey. Thanks to the National Science
Foundation, Best Buy, and other grants and donations, what started as an
idea for a free, basic educational wolf game has led to four WolfQuest game
releases and over 500,000 registered members worldwide. The WolfQuest Team
would like to thank you for your support over the last five years; it’s
been quite the experience for all of us.

Because of generous donations, store purchases, and forum ad revenue, we
are able to continue to keep all facets of the game and Community Forums
running much longer than expected. However, we no longer have grant
funding so this e-mail is to let you know of upcoming plans for WolfQuest.

WolfQuest Games: the current version of WolfQuest (Survival of the Pack)
will be available for download and gameplay for as long as we can afford
the server. We will eventually remove the multiplayer lexicon so only
phrased chat and no chat options are available, but we hope this phase
won’t take place for many months to come.

WolfQuest Store and Donations: the WolfQuest store will continue to remain
open with clearance sale prices and the current stock of inventory. Once
items sell out, they will not be replaced, and all proceeds will go to the
Minnesota Zoo. Because we will no longer be offering game updates, we have
also stopped accepting donations for WolfQuest. If you’d like to donate to
a worthwhile organization, we recommend looking into wolf and other
wildlife education and conservation organizations.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to log in to the
WolfQuest Community Forums (www.wolfquest.org/bb) and post on the
announcement or the Tips, Hints, and Help section there. This e-mail
address is not monitored. From the entire WolfQuest Team, thank you to
everyone who has played the game, participated in the forums, and otherwise
put in so much time and energy into this project- it’s been quite the
thrilling ride and we’re glad it can continue.
It's sad to see this little game go, but I guess it was inevitable. WolfQuest will be missed. You can still download the game here.

TL;DR: WolfQuest is leaving the internet due to grants from the NWF being cut. Downloads will be available for a limited time.

the Apocalypse for Gamers

Guess what? the world ended yesterday! And now we're either trapped in our own limbos because we're dead without realizing it or nothing happened at all.

Anyway, due to the doomsday weekend, I decided to look upon all the things that make gamers feel the true power of fear. These are some of the many things that would make gamers have their own apocalypse:

1. BLACKOUT

Despite the joke pic of character "Blackout" from the Transformers (2007) film, the idea of power being completely gone with you having nothing to do about it would make any gamer cry. The only way that this would suck more is if the power goes out during the middle of playing a game. Can you imagine encountering a major boss in a game like Devil May Cry and as soon as you start playing the battle the TV suddenly goes blank? Horrifying!!!

2. CRAPPY SEQUELS
You don't have to agree with every game shown above, but when sequels are long anticipated and end up becoming buzz kills to the overall franchise, it will haunt you forever.

It's even worse when you've been a long fan of a particular franchise, like Duke Nukem or Resident Evil, and you sit there as you watch your favorite thing slowly kill itself with an abundance of bad or just plain unworthy sequels, spin offs, prequels or whatever else. In my opinion, Sonic the Hedgehog had it the worst. He seems like the kind of guy that tries almost too hard to both return and relate to modern games of today but this ends up making things even worse. While the character(s) will always be loved by gamers who know him, his days seem to be slowing coming to an end, which is scary. Possibly the slowest Game Apocalypse to date.

3. CANCELLATION
What's could be worse than bad sequels and blackouts? How about cancelled games? The idea of any games announced like Bioshock Infinite or Metal Gear Rising getting cancelled would be a heart attack for gamers, especially if they pre-ordered the darn thing months or years before its release.

One game in particular that fears gamers is Last Guardian. Holy Hell! Never have I seen a game with more problems being released in my entire gamer life!!! At least Aliens Colonial Marines had simple reasons for being delayed again and again and again, and even again! This is not to say that Last Guardian will be cancelled, because the game is still in Sony's playing field, but with all the crap this game is going through to be released i'm surprised that they haven't yet.

4. RIP LOCAL
Everything in the gaming world seems to be leaning more towards online playability more and more by the years, you either hate it or you don't. I personally hate because of my own personal Apocalypse fear.

Can you imagine if a future E3 show (E3 2016?) announced that there will never be local Multiplayer or Co-op playability anymore, and the only way you can is through online in completely separate rooms? I would hate that! look, I know many games now a days are online as it is and that the local is bound to die soon, but I've always been a local kind of guy. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare (above) is one of my favorite local multiplayer experiences in my life. Me and my father and friends would always hangout to play it on the weekends and such. But what if that were to be gone forever? Can you imagine Nazi Zombies having no option of playing with a buddy sitting right next to you? Can you tell that I hate online???

What else would be considered the "end of days" for gamers? let us know and I hope no one took this post too seriously...

Online Cease Fire Scheduled for Dec. 21

In light of the recent shooting in Newtown, CT, Antwand Pearman, editor-in-chief of GamerFitNation.com, has called for a 24-hour cease fire for all multiplayer shooters on Dec. 21. The group isn't meaning to associate virtual violence leading to real-life violence, but rather to allow the gaming community to show their support for the lives lost on Dec. 14. If you'd like to join the event, here's the Facebook page.

Opinion:
I have a couple things I'd like to get out on the web about this event. I think it's a pretty awesome idea that someone is willing to make an event like this. After all the shootings that have happened recently, it was kind of inevitable that this would come around. However, I think it's kind of a dumb thing that they aren't attributing this at all to video games as a cause.

I know, I'm gonna sound like some politician from the 90's saying Mortal Kombat will poison your kids' minds, but bare with me for a second. Even though there's no real proof that video games are directly correlated with real violence doesn't mean that there's no link at all. Especially with new games coming out like Hitman: Absolution and Farcry 3, you have to admit video games are getting a hell of a lot more violent than the stuff we had back in the day with Doom and Mortal Kombat. Graphics and gameplay are getting more realistic by the day with all the fancy hardware of the PC and with the help of real military operatives lending a hand on video games. Even though video games are never admitted as a cause, they usually do have some impact on that. With all the forms of media out there as violent as video games such as TV, movies, books, and art, how many of them make you pull the trigger?

Whatever happened to games like Sly Cooper and Ratchet & Clank? Every game that comes out these days is either a first-person shooter or the gritty reboot of X. I want the uprise of the platformer/cartoony violence, but I guess that won"t happen knowing that cartoon violence also causes people to become aggressive. Knowing how things are going these days though, it would just be a game where Fox McCloud crash lands on an uncharted planet and gets covered with dirt and mud while struggling to press the 'A' button to escape his burning ship before it explodes. Then he has to hunt for food using his blaster, but gets raided by some alien dudes. He then has to beat them to death with a stick by mashing 'Y' cause his blaster got knocked away in the confusion. Oh, and slow-mo. Lots of slow-mo to show the detail. I can see it now,"Starfox: Absolute Revenge Mission".

Anyway, that's enough of my pointless rambling. Go enjoy some Final Fantasy on the 21st.

Sony Patents A Controller That Splits In Half

With the Playstation Move dying due to lack of software and intrest, it looks like Sony is making one final effort to keep the hardware afloat. How you ask? Simple: Make a controller that splits in half.

Yup, you read that right. Sony may possibly be making a controller with the functionality of a Move controller, but put it into a more familiar form. The controller will have an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, vibration capability, and a speaker. According to the filing, it will be really light-weight, but you'll still need to pick up a Playstation camera. Oh, not to mention double wrist straps.

GeekBeerz Podcast episodes and Retro Ramblysodes will be "Back and Forth"

This was something we had already planned but I guess it's something to bring up to everyone's attention since no one else knows.

We have to manage a GeekBeerz podcast episode but also the new Retro ramblysodes as well, so how do we do it? We planned it out to e back and forth, to switch from one to the other and back. Example: We just recorded and finished episode 11 a couple days ago, so when we meet up again we'll be doing the second ramblysode instead. This is mostly to bring more to the table and hopefully help bring out more episodes in the months to come. It's also a way to give us time to bring more into our episodes so that we aren't struck dumb when we finally get to recording them.

STAT is in the House!

I admit, when it comes to the designing and drawings I've done for this site I haven't really put any real effort into them. Not as much as I now do with my comics.

Say hello to STAT, it is a mini mock company that me and a old friend of mine named Tyler Robb created, Shrew also gave input and even inspired various designs. The company is suppose to be a comic and graphic novel company similar to the likes of Marvel, DC, or even Dark Horse comics. The only difference being that it's not just superheroes and dark tales, but more comedic and filled with very colorful and original tales and even spoofs. Possibly the longest going series would be my TAD comics, which tell the tales of all of us here in our own misadventures.

Basically, the mock company was meant to be something or somewhere that anyone can go to and give their own inspirations and ideas, and they would be able to bring their ideas out into the world. We have had many artists and authors come about, quite a lot of weird ones mostly, and most of them have even inspired characters and locations, and especially good jokes.

Well now STAT will more than likely be moving in with its cousin GeekBeerz very soon! This is mostly to bring a completely New element into the website while also being able to have all things in one convenient place to work on. I can't personally say when this will officially happen. But I can assure you that it will be worth it!

Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale: a dream come true for Playstation fans / a curiosity for skeptics

The Smash Bros-style Playstation brawler is finally here. And word is coming in that it exactly what PS3 fans have been waiting for!

From what has been coming in from reviews and posts, the game is a legit physical combat game with, despite some little flaws, also has some big improvements from what other similar titles have tried to accomplish before. Playstation fans have been begged by those who have the game to go get it and at least try it once. However the main concern is those skeptics, preferably the Xbox and Nintendo dudes, that still believe this game to be nothing more than a knock off of smash bros, however since the game is finally out and key differences can be official we can finally have the answers we need.

Here is the biggest shocker coming in from IGN and commentors from other sites like Game Informer and Gamespot, this will be extremely difficult for skeptics to believe. This game is actually very different from smash bros in a lot of ways! The best way this was described was from a comment that said "Battle Royale is different from Smash Bros as much as Mortal Kombat is different from Street Fighter." Not only that, but all the 20 playable characters are absolutely not knock off characters of the smash bro gangs, so you don't have to worry about Sackboy having similar combat as Mario. The only real similarity between the roster is the choice between good or bad Cole Mcgrath, which is reminiscent to the Link and dark Link choice, or even the Link and toon Link. However, given that this is Playstation, the characters may seem newer and not as prodigy driven as Mario and Link is for Nintendo. At the same time, this is a new start for the series that will easily gain popularity over the course of future sequels, or even years of popularity to catch up with such game. In the end PS fans are sure to enjoy seeing a fight between Drake and Ratchet.

The game does something that it successfully does, the game makes the levels in the game more interactive than ever. The halfway mark of worlds colliding is both an interesting and strange surprise, why is Hades attacking the Patapons now? There is also multiple item pick ups that, by what has been said, never gets boring.

Some complaints were coming in about inbalance of the game from Demos and the Beta, now that the game's been out we can put that issue aside. Sure there is some differences between the different powers and abilities amongst the characters, bu there not really an inbalance between all of them. Keep in mind the Demos and Beta only consisted of 4-7 characters out of 20, and that they were only meant to be extreme enough to get you interested as a whole. It is good to also note that the super moves can be quite more difficult than you'd expect. Having to save up super moves and use them only to miss can be a pain, but at the same time it's nice to see something different and also incredibly challenging.

Despite all the cool new features that make the game awesome, there are flaws or differences that will make Skeptics use them to attack the game head on. For one, Playstation took the daring move of using lesser known and stranger characters like Fat Princess in their roster, instead of more classic characters like Crash or Spyro (however they may very much be DLC characters). The real big problem is that the game is so fun and chaotic playing with friends and family on multiplayer, the solo round is a different matter. While multiplayer is a blast, playing solo is said to get pretty boring for most and might even seem repetitive at times. However games like this are never really as fun to play alone anyways, if Smash Bros and Tekken were only solo campaign it would not be as compelling either.

In the end, Playstation fanatics are assured to have the time of their lives with this new beginning of Sony's version of an annual smash bros. It is also a nice way to celebrate Playstation as a whole. Skeptics can either continue being skeptic or they can at least spend valuable time with the actual game, they'll either end up enjoying it or be uneasy to accept it, we can't make up peoples minds for them. I see a great future for this new idea of a, finally good enough, Playstation brawler and expect good things to come from it.

Now if we can just get Microsoft to make an Xbox brawler...

[NOTE: This is in no way a review, but I was able to have a two hour go at it with some friends who bought the game and hooked it up to a television in our College library, I also played the beta a month ago. But I want to actually own the game and put more hours into it before I write a full fledged review]

the Wolverine and Man of Steel trailers to be unleashed with the Hobbit! [UPDATE]

The Hobbit is coming out in just four weeks to make us nerds jizz our pants with joy. But now even better things our coming our way, for both Marvel and DC fans!

While we still originally expect to have the trailer for the J. J. Abrams Star Trek sequel, Star Trek into Darkness, it has now been revealed that we're actually getting not only the first trailer for the new Wolverine movie but also a new trailer for the Man of Steel too! We're not sure the time length and expectations with these trailers (like we do with the Star Trek sequel), but we expect to be fully satisfied.

The Wolverine is a new take on the ongoing X men character and tells his story AFTER the events of X Men: the Last Stand. Where he is to travel to Japan and learn the ways of the samurai, much like it is in his comic book lore. The film comes out July 27th 2013.

Man of Steel is the new take on Superman, which also goes into a more serious tale and Nolan's Batman style to it. It is also said to have a stronger alien influence too. Their goal is to make sure fans of the hero get the full and well deserved treat they deserve. This film comes out the 14th of June 2013.

And just because it was mentioned, J. J. Abrams Star Trek sequel brings back the original cast from his first Star Trek reboot, as they go off on a new adventure that is sadly undisclosed at this time. This film comes out the 17th of May 2013.

Does anyone else realize that we have four superhero films coming out next year? We got Superman, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Thor in 2013! Wow!

Until next time...

[UPDATE] Turns out there will not be a trailer for Wolverine until early 2013, as confirmed by the films director. But we can still look forward to a new Man of Steel trailer and even Star Trek 2...

Members page updated

We also took the liberty of updating the members page to detail our current status. This may be the last page that we'll update for a good while.

Introducing Mini Reviews!

I told you there were going to be changes, starting with the small ones. However this one is just to see how well we can all manage upon it.

Instead of doing small reviews for big brand titles for the PS3, 360, and Wii systems, we will be doing small reviews for games that are essentially smaller titles. This would include app games like Angry Birds or free pc games like Slender. It will work with the four of us here giving our own personal rating decisions per game and leaving you readers to determine if getting this small title is even worth it. (for example, if three out of four of the ratings have ratings below a 7 out of 10, you probably should not get).

Four games are already on the page titled Mini Reviews, with only ratings currently from me and Bergy (one technically by Geoff which was pretty much determined by him in one of our podcast episodes, but he can change it if he wishes to do so in the future).

The four of us will have the chance to put on as many games and place as many of our own personal ratings as we wish to, but you guys also have some say! Is there a smaller under the radar game that you would love for us to both play and give our personal opinions about? Feel free to throw one out in the comments whenever you want! We will gladly play any app, hindie, or free pc game that you all request, considering that our laptops and mobile devices are capable of playing them XD.

Until next time...

Dishonored review

When it comes to the final quarter of the year, we are met by a great multitude of sequels, and the likes of sequels, from the much larger franchises. This year we were met up with the much anticipated Assassins Creed III game, the highly anticipated new trilogy start with Halo 4, and the always expected return of the Call of Duty franchise in the form of Black Ops 2. But I am happy to admit that I am glad to have waited on getting those sequels for a rather new and unexpected entry amongst all those others. One that definitely proves that a new beginning can ALWAYS be welcomed into the crowd.

Story

The story of Dishonored is a simplistic one. It is also one that sadly lacks a bit of the shocking moments that games nowadays are expected to have, but perhaps that is a good thing. We will always have a need to be surprised in many games if it involves something like an unexpected character death or a major cliffhanger of the sort. But when it comes to a game like Dishonored, it is nice to bring back a game with a classic feeling of a basic story that gives you all the information you need to know or care about straight off the bat. Much like a Mario game, where you know you need to save the princess and that's that, Dishonored is somewhat behind similar lines despite being a bit more detailed.

The story revolves around the character Corvo Attano, who lives within the city of Dunwall as the legendary bodyguard of the Empress. But when the Empress is murdered, Corvo gets falsely accused for it and thrown into prison. He soon gets the help of escaping by a rag tag team called the loyalists and becomes one of their most trusted allies. Now Corvo must disguise himself behind a mask and hunt down all who were responsible for his imprisonment and assassinate them.

While the story does seem like it would be sprinkled with major shockers and revealing twists, there really isn't any. Sure there is one surprising moment and one certain twist, but it's really not enough to surprise you all too much, especially for those who have played the likes of Bioshock or Batman Arkham City. And other than what was mentioned, there is really no other thing to say that wouldn't be considered a spoiler.

Gameplay

Here is where the game DEFINITELY wins the prize! But one must also understand that this game is pretty much the first legit title to come from Arkane studios, a studio whom only made two actual other games (Arx Fatalis (2002), Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (2006), and they technically helped a bit with Bioshock 2 (2010) on the animation and art, but never really got the clear credit they deserved). I'm glad to say that Arkane can finally get well deserved credit though, well I guess Bethesda gets some credit too.

Being a newly inspired game, it still does take on ideas from a great multitude of other excellent games, but Dishonored manages to blend it all in nicely. The gameplay is visibly similar and plays similar to that of Bioshock due to double wielding capabilities ad using a variety of magic powers as well. It also has an Assassins Creed inspiration obviously due to the fact that you play as an assassin, but also because of the ability to be super stealthy which can also be reminiscent to the likes of Splinter Cell and perhaps a Hitman game for the excellent multiple possibilities for assassinating. What do I mean by that? There is an earlier moment in the game (without spoiling the reasonings behind it) where you can either a. poison the targets drink, b. poison the targets and the targets guests drink, c. don't poison the drink and attack the target when entering the room, or d. sneak behind him and silent kill when he is alone. As you can tell, the replay value to try out all the other ways of killing targets is quite impressive. The game also has loot that is very similar to the Elder Scrolls games, preferably Skyrim to be best example, and many others also relate it to Borderlands even though the loot is very limited.

The game has many ways for you to go at it, you are able to beat the game in just six hours if you are one to attack everything at will with no mercy, or you can go for a more stealthier route which introduces another aspect of the game that makes it literally feel like a fresh new game with no feeling of repetition. Going a stealthier route will also make the game 20-40 hours long (when I finished it I played for 68 hours!). You can also play throughout the entire thing without any one noticing you ever! There is even a ghost mode that requires you to not even have anyone sense your presence whatsoever, which is really cool. Attacking targets and getting bodies noticed will actually bring in more security and tougher enemies if you are not careful. Best example would be the Tall Boys, soldiers with tall mechanical legs that shoot explosive arrows and are protected by shield arms. However you go at the game, in the end, will affect which ending you get, and apparently there are at least three endings I know of and proabably more.

Graphics and Presentation

I'll admit the cinematic trailer kind of threw me off of what to expect from the actual game. It showed realistic looking characters while the game goes for a more realism-mix cartoonish look for the characters that are, again, similar to that of Bioshock but not ridiculous like that of the rocker dudes in Guitar Hero that look like primates. But after playing the game the character style really does fit.The casting is really good too, which has a many talented voice artists as well as the provided voice talents of Carrie Fisher and Gregg Berger.

The graphics and art style fits and and works for such a title. Some review sites have complained about some muddy looking graphics here and there but what do they expect? The game is suppose to look dirty and abstract. It takes place in a steam punk style universe! And it involves the Rat Plague! It's not suppose to be as shiny and detailed as Uncharted or Heavy Rain. It's also suppose to have inventions and machinery that looks like clunky prototypes because that's what they were going for. Take Corvo's mask for example, it looks like a skull while also looking like a pile of random bits and pieces put together. (p.s. the game is also surprisingly really gory and bloody with graphic results, you can decapitate people and slice them into many pieces!)

The Score

The music is important to point out, it is both beautifully presented and rather creepy. The theme for this game is a child singing Drunken Whaler with eerie background music that is as terrifying as the music for Michael Myers in Halloween, very Creepy! It also has a very cool song written and presented by Daniel Licht called Honor for All that they use for the end credits of the game. For anyone who doesn't know, Daniel Licht is the same guy who scored the seasons for the TV show Dexter and is the new composer for the upcoming releases of Silent Hill games, replacing Akira Yamaoka.

Verdict and Final Thoughts

Are you overwhelmed and sick of all the sequels from the same long running franchises, and in need of something that is new and actually a good new? Well the search is over! Dishonored is by far the most compelling and well presented title this year, especially amongst all the sequels from much bigger companies. The replay value is high and multiple options and possibilities that the game gives you is something to be desired for ages to come. While the story doesn't have those wow and holy crap moments, it is well presented and beautifully told from a studio that is finally getting the attention it deserves.

I don't really like giving scores cause sometimes I think they're dumb and pointless numbers, but if I had to I would definitely give this game a 9 out of 10! Actually perhaps even a 9.5 out of 10 cause of it's enjoyable replay value (I'm currently replaying it again as we speak!)

the "Quick reviews" page has been removed, Retro moving in!

Some minor changes are coming along, before the bigger changes do, but one has recently happened and it's one that needed to happen.

We will no longer have the quick review page anymore. We find that there is no need to have one since we already technically review games in our Podcast series, as well as occasionally a full-fledged detailed review on this site. But hey, at least we'll have a retro page on here! That way we don't have to work on two sites at once (which is now pretty clear that the retro site has been cancelled sadly, but retro ramblysodes are still happening!)

We hope that this news doesn't upset anyone, we doubt it will though...

the Wii U is finally upon us! Was it a Hit or Miss?

Nintendo is the first to unleash the next generation console of their own creation: the Wii U, while not all of us have gotten the pleasure to either buy or try it for ourselves yet, is it worth it?

Give us your input! Is the Wii U the next best thing that is worth the cash and attention, or is it not entirely as intriguing as it seems to be? Hopefully one of us here will give our own input soon...

New Video! Assassins Creed 3 unboxing!

Guess what? Shrew actually got the limited edition of Assassins Creed III! And we actually have a video to show that off!

Shrew pre ordered it way back around PAX 2012 on Amazon. The set comes with the game, a really neat statue, an actual legit sized flag, and a belt buckle. Check out the video below:

We hardly do videos on youtube (even though we should), but we plan to hopefully do an unboxing of the big Call of Duty Black Ops II collectors edition that Bergy's brother managed to get his hands on. And expect an unboxing of the Bioshock Infinite Ultimate Songbird edition in February! Until next time...

Ramblysode 1 having complications

The first ramblysode of our Retro line is going to have to be delayed until tomorrow, the reason why is because the site we use to upload the episodes is being a complete dick right now (well, at least on my computer it is) so don't blame us!

In other news, tomorrow we will be recording episode 11 (yes, the actual episode 11 this time! lol) and Ramblysode 2 for Retro will be recorded on the 1st of November, right after Halloween!

[EDIT:] the ramblysode still has issues with my computer, it has been given to Geoff to upload, it has been finished so all he has to do is simply upload the darn thing...

Pick your favorite Iron Man Mark!

Iron Man changes his suit more then Hank Pym changes his hero name, but each new suit brings something new and inviting to Stark.

While we wait for the Mark XLVII suit, which will more then likely be the Extremis suit, why dont we take a look at his older mark and find out which ones were the best and coolest. Heck, let us add in War machine's suits for the fun of it.

MARK I: the Tin Man
During the months of being held in captivity by the Ten Rings, Tony Stark secretly built the Mark I in order to successfully escape. This Mark is very old school and not shiny or perfect like his other suits. Weapons include the flame thrower and rocket launcher, it can also use jet boosters for flight, but only once and for a very short time. Most mech pieces are outside of the suit as opposed to being inside, which makes those pieces more vulnerable. However it can still put up a fight in combat. It also has no Jarvis or advance technology, which makes it safe from being controlled or overrun by technological based villains like Ultron.

MARK II: Shiny Metal Knight
Mark II was basically the prototype or demo for the Mark III, it pretty much has all the same functions as the Mark III and IV and the only real difference is the fact that Mark II is not painted. It's really only when Rhodes gets the suit that it actually becomes interesting.

WAR MACHINE (Mark II.5)
The Mark II eventually becomes reconstructed as the War Machine suit. Now the suit has lots and lots of guns! It also has more armor build around the arms, chest, and shoulders. He has his iconic gatling gun on his back, as well as machine guns and hidden pistols on his arms. He also has a hidden missile called "the ex-wife" that sadly does absolutely nothing. He is able to pretty much shoot all his guns at the same time with close to perfect targeting. And above all else, he still has the regular Iron Man weapons like his arc reactor and stuff. Also, does anyone else like the red glow around the eyes and arc reactor instead of the regular blue?

MARK III and IV: Gold and Hot Rod Red
The main look(s) when you think about Iron Man. Mark III was quickly built after a successful test run with Mark II, and used to save civilians from the Ten Rings and to battle the Iron Monger villain. The suit introduces the shoulder missiles and wrist rockets. The suit also uses the chest unibeam for the first time in the Iron Man films. Mark IV is basic the Mark III, with only some very minor and barely noticeable paint apps to the body (mainly just some gold lining on the stomach metal).

MARK V: Suitcase Win!

The Mark V is easily one of the more unique. It acts more like a "emergency" suit for trouble on the road, those times where an enemy comes by and you don't have access to the suits at home. This suit transforms from a brief case and completely plates the entire body. It is unfortunately a weaker suit, having thinner armor and limited weapons to use. Then again the idea is strong and could lead to stronger/better suits using the same kind of function in the future.

MARK VI: the New Element
Probably the more iconic look now than the Mark III (and IV I guess), the Mark VI is unique because it was the first suit to try out the new element, the successor to the arc reactor, and also introduces the multi-fire grenade launcher and the infamous laser weapons, which completely owned the Hammer Drones in the second film. The new element is established by the triangular shaped chestplate that replaced the usual circular one. The suit was used to help defeat Hammer Drones and Whiplash, it also helped save the Hellicarrier from a surprise attack planned by Thor's brother Loki.

MARK VII: let's go Avenging!
We can essentially agree on the fact that this is more so his War suit than the other ones. The Mark VII takes all the good qualities from the other suits to use in the heat of battle, like the Laser weapon and repulsers and mini missiles. It uses a similar idea to the Mark V to transform and consume the body, only instead of a suitcase it's a launch pod that detects silver wrist straps using laser technology. The armor is much more bulky and can handle harder attacks than the other suits can. It may be good to point out that the suit cannot handle space travel.

WAR MACHINE MARK II: War Patriot? Patriot Machine?
Now we're getting to the new suits for the third film, where our only knowledge about them is their looks and possibilities. That Iron Patriot looking suit has been confirmed to be War Machine's new look, and we got no problem with it! It makes sense seeing as how James Rhodes is a captain of the Air Force of the United States, and maybe he's a Captain America fan? Regardless, this is happening and will be seen on the big screen. It appears as though he replaced all his weapons from his original design with new ones, now he has some rifle/laser gun looking thing instead of a gatling gun. His weapons will probably be much stronger too, his original weapons were given to him by Justin Hammer, made by his company Hammer Tech, and this time they will easily be weapons designed by Tony so they should be far more advanced.

MARK XLVII: Extremis!!!
Screw Mark VIII - XLVI, we're heading straight to the Mark XLVII! This suit has the same classic colors but obviously with more gold than red. And from what has been said online and through rumors and other sources, this will actually be his Extremis suit! A suit that grows entirely out of Tony Stark's skin through nano technology, how freaking cool! There are some questions and concerns however, most due to how different this suit will actually be. Will he still use original weapons, and new weapons? Will he still have communication with Jarvis? And how graphic and detailed will it be to see his suit grow in and out of his skin? And why more gold and less red?

Which one is your favorite? While we have no real clue for what the Iron Man 3 armor has in store, we can still get a pretty good assumption from what they will offer, plus there are the other suits too. Please comment or pick your favorite in the poll.

Iron Man 3 will start MCU phase 2, and hit theaters May 3rd, 2013...

Special Announcment: Introducing GeekBeerz Retro!

GeekFlix is no more! During the countless months of planning and observing our current situations I am glad to announce our new series: GeekBeerz Retro!

GeekBeerz Retro (or aptly considered GB Retro or GBR) is pretty much the new name for GeekFlix and more! We mentioned doing that this as a new series though, which it is. The GeekFlix podcast series that we've been promising is actually the new Retro series! We do plan to make our current GeekBeerz episodes better with time and much needed improvements. The Retro series, which will mostly cover world, movies, and TV news, will also pretty much act like the much needed "inbetween" episodes of the GeekBeerz episodes, basically a Directors Cut series that can co-exist with the current stuff without getting in the way.

While we promise the series will not be super Rambly at all, the episodes will actually be called "Ramblysodes" as a joke. Their are currently ten Ramblysodes planned and each will be approximately an hour to an hour and a half. We will cover news involving Movies, TV shows and occasionally World news if need be. Since it's a Directors Cut kinda series, you will also get to know us individually a bit better and learn about our weekly whereabouts. Well will also do movie and TV shows, even though more exact reviews will STILL be on the original GeekFlix site (which is getting renamed Retro in the future). And we will conclude most or every episode with something that has never been really done before:

                                                             Giveaways and Prizes!!!

Now don't expect to win a Plasma Screen or anything that extreme. The prizes will either be small, cheap, or unique but they will definitely NOT be worthless! We may do this for every other episode, which means a few episodes will skip this event. Or perhaps every other episode will announce the winners. Now when these giveaways and contests do happen, they will be a big question that you will have to try a answer as best as you can, the best answer will obviously win. You can enter these contests by FaceBook, Gmail, Email, or just on this friggin site!

More info soon to come ASAP...

Coming Soon: Tom's Metal Gear Solid Ultimate Review!

Currently I have been obsessed with everything Metal Gear, and what better way to pass the time before rising comes out than to grab all four Metal Gear Solid titles?

I now have Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, complete with Metal Gear Online and Trophy achievements, and I very recently got and played the Metal Gear Solid HD collection for the Vita which includes the second and third game, along with some multiplayer and map stuff. I am still need to get the first game, I just need the spare money to do so.

After playing through all of them, however long that may take, I will very precisely and thoroughly review each game in one mega big review. Is there any more Solid games in the series (other than any future or upcoming games?) Is there a game similar or in the same franchise that you would suggest for me to also try out? Feel free to send requests or comments ASAP...

(P.S. is it worth getting Metal Gear Solid HD collection for the Vita? Absolutely! It is the best way to play the games from what I've seen.)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GEOFF!!!

Today, twenty years ago, a creature named Geoff was born to this world. Geoff over the years has grown to love classic games from Nintendo and Sega, preferably Sonic mostly. Geoff has also grown to love a wide variety of Anime and Manga from all sorts of media. He soon became friends with Shrew, then later on Tom and Bergy. He is the founder and leader of GeekBeerz and he also edits our episodes. His favorite drink is Bawls root beer and he is currently a Brony, yes Geoff is a fricken Brony but we still love em (however he's wasting money on Pony figures when he should be buying games! lol).

Happy Birthday Geoff! And we hope you have an amazing day!

Episode 11 will actually be Episode 10.5

Once again, to no surprise, there is a huge delay for our next podcast episode. But we need time to make sure every new episode is better than the last.

After careful agreement, it has been decided that this next episode will actually be called episode 10.5 due to actually not being a complete episode (most things talked about like PAX had to be delayed til a later episode, despite this one only being barely 2 hours).

This is so everyone understands and can keep track of our current progress, until next time...

Halloween Countdown 5: Call of Duty Black Ops 2 has Zombies back with an actual Campaign!!!

Yes, Black Ops 2 is bringing Zombies back. This time however it will not be the little fun mini game like the original(s).

It has been confirmed that Zombies will now, finally, have a campaign to it!!! The Tranzit campaign will be single player or four player in an open world map. You must defeat waves before entering a new room or area in the world, you'll also meet up with other characters and have special creation modes for objects and weapons. To travel to other areas you can do it either by foot or you can take a bus, yes a bus. Don't worry, you do get attacked on the bus!

There is also grief mode where two teams of four players try to survive waves and waves of zombies until one team out lives the other. Sadly you can't shoot the enemy teammates, but you can make the progress a nightmare. There is also the original zombie mode returning called survival mode.

COD Black Ops 2 comes out November 13th for PS3, 360, and PC. It also comes out for Wii U on November 18th...

Iron Man 3 armor!!! / another Hulk movie???

When it comes to doing movie news, we here might only end up writing about scary, action, or superhero flicks. Especially with news like this!

Concept art was released to show off the new suits of Iron Man/Tony Stark (played of course by Robert Downey Jr.) and War Machine/James Rhodes (being played once again by Don Cheadle) which we will see in the next third installment. Iron Man's suit, this time around, is the Mark XLVII (how did he go from the Mark VII to the Mark XLVII???? he's been busy!) and it will have more gold color this time around. The suit is suppose to literally grow out of his skin, like in the Extremis storyline (which the third film is closely following), so that is pretty sweet! War Machine's suit is basically the Iron Patriot suit (which was originally assumed to actually be a secondary villain in this film, but was later proven false). Perhaps his suit is a hint to a possible storyline involving Iron Patriot himself? Check out the art below:

A bit more "colorful" than expected right? While there is some pointless fan backlash at these new looks, I personally and Honestly like the crap out of these new looks! Iron Man's will easily look awesome, especially if it does grow out of his skin, and to me it looks more like a suit made of science if that's even possible. War Machine's suit definitely went a strange route, and Director Shane Black is definitely making a daring move, but it kinda makes sense for Rhodes to go with those colors. James Rhodes does seem a bit more "patriotic" than that of Iron Man (see what I did there?) and if there is to be an Iron Patriot storyline in the future for Iron Man 4, 5, etc., where else is the suit gonna come from? And who knows, maybe Rhodes is a die hard fan of Captain America, so he painted his suit for inspiration? The reasoning can go anywhere.

In other News

It's obvious that out of all the superheroes in the Avengers film this year, Hulk is the one that stole the show in the end. It would be pretty stupid for Marvel not to make another Hulk film, who cares if the other Hulk films underwhelmed at the box office? Avengers Hulk has everyone basically re-convinced! Kevin Feige had this to say about another Hulk film: “Do I think Hulk can carry a movie and be as entertaining as he was in ‘Avengers’? I do believe that. I do believe he absolutely could. We certainly are not even going to attempt that until ‘Avengers 2.’ So there’s a lot of time to think about it.”

He also hinted at possible storylines that the film could use: “I don’t think there’s a lot that we couldn’t do someday, as the cinematic universe continues to grow and expand and get as big as the comic book universe. ”Planet Hulk’ is a cool story, ‘World War Hulk’ is a cool story. I think there’s pitfalls of continuity-overload, and mythology getting so dense that it almost collapses in on itself [with those cosmic projects]. It happens every few decades or so in the comics. Apart from that, I’d say everything is on the table.”

How cool would it be to see a live-action Planet Hulk movie!? Or even World War Hulk? It sucks that it won't be happening until after Avengers 2, but hopefully Hulk will still make an appearance in Avengers 2 and as long as they have Mark Ruffalo return I'll have no problem with their plans.

To keep track: Iron Man 3 comes out in May, and Thor: the Dark World in November 2013. Captain America: the Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, an possibly Ant-man in 2014. Then we have Avengers 2 coming in 2015, and we can all assume another Hulk sometime afterwords...

Walking Dead for Christmas

Remember those awesome Walking Dead game episodes? Remember the announcement of a disc release? Well that's happening sooner than expected!

The Walking Dead Game, all five episodes, will be releasing on December 4th for a mere 30 bucks. Just in time for the holiday! They also announced that episode 3 will be releasing on ios soon, and episode 4 is just around the corner.

Halloween Countdown 4: Slender getting a Sequel!

Slender was a very basic but extremely popular indie horror. Blue Isle studios knows this, and is now planning a sequel!

The sequel will be a commercial release, meaning that it won't be free like the original. The sequel will be titled "Slender: the Arrival". More news is Sure to come out asap, but what does everyone else think about this? Will this sequel be as good or better than the first game? Or will it be too updated by Blue Isle and turned into another one of those ripoffs?

Sly Cooper 4 release date

Sly Cooper 4 is about as painful of a wait as it is for the Last Guardian (well, kind of), but now Sony was wise enough to give us a release date.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is now going to be released on February 5th 2013, good gosh! Now we got Bioshock Infinite, Metal Gear Rising: Revengance, Dead Space 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and now Sly Cooper! Our wallets will surely cry.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will come out for PS3 and Vita, and will include Cross promotion for those who buy the PS3 version (which comes with free download for the Vita version).

the Playstation Super Slim is true, coming out September 25th and October 30th

Playstation, as much as we enjoy your entertainment, you really suck at keeping secrets. But hey who's whining? We now have a Slim Slim!

Sure this isn't new next generation console news, but the good news is that these Slimmer than Slim little guys hold so much more memory. This time around, Sony said it completely redesigned the internal architecture, resulting in 25 percent less volume and a 20 percent lighter design compared to the current PS3; both have been cut in half compared to the original. Aesthetically, it maintains the same general style and will be available in black or white (however a white model for the US release is still uncertain)."With the extra HDD capacity which has been extended from 320GB and 160GB, users can store and enjoy more and more entertainment content including games, music, photos, and video on the new PS3," Sony says.

The first will be released on September 25th and will be a 250GB bundle for $269, the second will release October 30th and will be a 500GB console for $299. Sure it's not cheaper than the Slims now, but at least they don't exactly cost more so either. Will I pick one up? Sure Probably since I need to replace my broken one anyways.

What about you guys? Does this sound like an interesting thing for Sony to do, or is it just another wasted money grabber? (note: still unknown but unlikely that this will play PS1 and PS2 games, but given that so many of those games are already available in HD anyways, does it really matter?)

Your thoughts on the Wii U

The Wii U is basically around the corner now, and is already getting pre-ordered like mad, but is this new Nintendo HD console as awesome as it sounds?

There is the standard 8GB that just comes with the console, game controller, and the accessories at a reasonable price of 300 bucks. The other is a 32GB deluxe set that comes with a bit more, including a copy of Nintendo land, this one costs 350 bucks (p.s. all the pre-orders for the deluxe is sold out at many online retailers, so finding one for sale will be hard until its release). But do we really want to jump in now and buy low Gigabyte console when they'll probably release a 60, 250, or a 320GB console on a later date? Of course that's assuming they do release higher gig consoles.

Many launch game titles are coming out too, from the many obvious ones (like New Super Mario Bros. U) to the shocking and very surprising titles (like Zombi U or even Assassin's Creed III). It is pretty great to know that the games are going to have much much more variety this time around, along with our favorite classics like Mario or Zelda, but one thing is something to keep in mind, the price. The games will cost 60 bucks like the games for PS3 and 360, that really brings on the pain to our wallets. And they have also confirmed that the HD will not be as powerful as the other HD consoles, so would that weaken the look of most of the game graphics for titles like Aliens: Colonial Marines and Mass Effect 3? (NOTE: we here don't believe that graphics make the game so this isn't an issue with us, however this may be an issue for others).

Plus it's a launch console with launch titles, who's to say that the launch games will not fully use everything that the game pads can do? Geoff admits that it's actually a really fun thing to use, and it could be useful for many game ideas, and he will more than likely talk about it in episode 12 along with Shrew.

So what do you guys say? Is the Wii U going to be awesome or will it suffer when having to compete with the other consoles? Please answer in the poll! (yes there will be a poll this time, sorry for the last one :-/)

EDIT: forget the Poll, Blogger is kind of being weird right now...

Halloween Countdown 3: Scary Honor #1

Game: Slender

For: PC

Price: Free

Scare Level: 9/10

Synopsis: Using only a flashlight, walk through the forest and collect 8 notebook pages before the mysterious Slender Man finds and gets you.

So What?: Slender is a very recent game, it is also one of the very recent most talked about game too. While the idea and basis around it seems very simple. The atmosphere, quietness, and the Slender Man itself is what makes this game so terrifyingly legit! We prefer that you play this one with friends or someone, unless you're brave enough to do it alone!

The game is free to download, and is safe for anyone to play (that doesn't include scare factor, if you have a child that can't handle really scary then it's not a game for him/her)

I your Computer can run it, you can download it here:  http://slender.en.softonic.com/

New Wreck-It Ralph trailer has Sonic in it!

Wrek-It Ralph is an upcoming movie from Disney that seems to be giving a nod to classic gamers, a very big nod.

The film has already revealed cameos from Bowser from the Super Mario games, Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman for those who actually "like" that name) from Sonic the Hedgehog, Ryu from Street fighter, Clyde (Orange Ghost) from Pac-Man, Q* Bert and other characters from his game Q*Bert, Smoke from Mortal Kombat, and even a Zombie based on Cyril from House of the Dead.

This new trailer confirms that Sonic will also make some kind of appearance in this film. Be sure to see it, it is very brief but very noticeable. There's probably other cameos that we haven't seen in the trailer yet (I watched twice before before I realized Frogger was there too!)

Wreck-It Ralph comes out November 2nd 2012, and we hope to see more cameos from other games in the future (Mario and Mega Man anyone? At least Luigi?)

No Director's Cut for the Blu-ray release of the Dark Knight Rises

The rumor speculation for the Dark Knight Rises getting a Director's Cut has been rather ridiculous lately. But now we finally know that this is not going to happen.

The originally story was that a longer version of the film would be released on Blu-ray, which would go more in depth with story elements that are left for the viewer to question. For example, the idea was that we'd get to see more origin story of the film's main villain Bane. While having deleted scenes is still a possibility, having cut scenes in the actual film is not going to happen.

No a big deal. The director, Christopher Nolan, is not fond of making Director Cuts of any of his films. We here at GeekBeerz believe the movie is good enough as is, plus the movie is already three hours something long, do we really want to watch something longer than that? (sadly we would like to watch more Batman, especially Bergy).

Halloween Countdown 2: Silent Hill Revelation thoughts

Silent Hill revelation is the late sequel to 2006's Silent Hill movie. While the first film wasn't as good as the actual video games, it's presentation, art, and mystery aspect was still incredibly good.

What can we expect from the sequel? How does the story connect to the original film, especially since Sean Bean returns? And why is this called revelations when the story, from what they say, is clearly taking inspiration from the Silent Hill 2 game? And what will Pyramid Head's role be this time? And more importantly, will the 3D suck or rock? And will the 3D aspect affect ticket sales, as well as the rating (Which will be rated R, films rated R never really do good in the box office).

Please give us your vote by comment or the poll to the right...

Halloween Countdown 1: Amnesia sales hit one Million!

Halloween is closing in. Stores have already put costumes on the shelves. And GeekBeerz has many plans for the scary Holiday.

Halloween countdown will report any news concerning that of scary Horror games, Movies, TV shows, etc.
All which will lead up to Halloween nights itself where we will hopefully have our second Halloween Special!!! (which will be episode 12 or 13).

Anyways, the Horror PC game that has Horror fans at a wow has just past 1 Million sales!

For anyone who doesn't know, the game follows the tale of a character named Daniel. Daniel awakens in a Prussian Castle with little to know memory of anything or how how he got there, he only remembers his name. Daniel discovers a note written to himself, from which he learns that he has deliberately erased his own memory, and that he needs to descend into the Inner Sanctum of the castle to kill the Baron, Alexander. The game is currently available for PC (Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, and Cloud)  by Steam or Retail.

Frictional Games revealed that nearly 1.4 million people have purchased Amnesia: the Dark Descent. According to a Blog post from the developer, 710,000 copies of the game were sold directly, as well as sales from inclusions in the Humble Indie Horror and Steam’s Potato Sack Reunion. Overall, the sales add up to 1,360,000 units in all.
“Despite that huge number of sales, what I think is more interesting is how good the monthly sales still are,” Frictional noted. “Not counting any discounts, the monthly full price sales lie at over 10,000 units. This means that less than every 5th minute someone in the world is buying a copy of Amnesia.”

On a side note, it's sequel, Amnesia: a Machine for Pigs, will come out within the first quarter of 2013, and will apparently takes place in the same universe as dark descent but follows completely new characters.

Darksiders II dominating sales

Darksiders II was and is a very good and fun adventure game, so it makes sense that this game is dominating the U.S. sales.

Darksiders was said to be in the leaading sales, selling over 27,000 units. New Super Mario Bros 2 and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance come in closely in second and third place, and Nintendo also notes that their XL hardware sales helped increase sales by 26 percent. Mario Bros 2 also helped by increasing sales 68 percent. NCAA Football 13, Lego Batman 2, and Sleeping Dogs come in as fourth, fifth, and sixth place. And Transformers: Fall of Cybertron does fine settling for seventh selling over 105,000 units.

  1. Darksiders II (360, PS3, PC)**
  2. New Super Mario Bros 2 (3DS)
  3. Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (3DS)**
  4. NCAA Football 13 (360, PS3)
  5. Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes (Wii, 360, NDS, PS3, 3DS, PSV, PC)
  6. Sleeping Dogs (360, PS3)

[NOTE: this list is for the dominating sales of August and doesn't currently include September sales]

Podcast Episode 11 on the Way

Guess what? Geoff and Shrew are back from their trip to PAX 2012! And last night we already recorded part 1 of their PAX coverage for Episode 11.

The episode is roughly an Hour and 50 minutes (that doesn't include the opening, closing, and break songs). It's still pretty long but it's still not as long as previous episodes (which usually go for more than two hours) so to us that's progress! Sadly Bergy was unable to make it again, so Glyde's question about his back problems has been delayed until part two.

In other news, tonight will quite possibly mark our first ever geekflix podcast! Remember, the podcast will star Tom and Bergy and will last for no more than an hour and a half.

Episode 11 is now in the process of being edited, hopefully it will be completed and put online very soon!

Crash Bandicoot still in hopes for Playstation All-Stars?

Many characters are going to appear and many are still in need of being announced, today Nariko and Sir Daniel were confirmed to be in the roster, but one character has been constantly asked about since the game was first announced: Crash.

The Twitter Tweets above does not reveal anything, but it confirms that even Activision support even has expectations for Crash Bandicoot to appear, and what do they mean by "have more info on this"? If anyone has more info on this please let us know.

What does everyone think? Yay of Nay on Crash Bandicoot appearing in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale? Please comment!!! keep in mind that Spyro is also a highly questioned possibility, so Yay or Nay on that?

Geoff and Shrew leave for PAX on Thursday!

As mentioned two months ago, Geoff and Shrew are about to leave for PAX 2012 this upcoming Thursday. Wish them luck on their journey!

What to expect:
They leave Thursday morning and they're driving straight to Seattle from Salt Lake City, They are sure to get excellent coverage of everything they see and do. We won't be forcing them to post anything immediately, they may not post anything until they get back, but their adventure will be chronicled none the less.

As for me and Bergy, we have no real plans while they're away. School and stuff may be in the way, but perhaps we'll start our first GeekFlix podcast episode! It's possible that our Darksiders videos, GeekBeerz vs Cybertron part 2 video, and maybe even our planned Slender video too! The possibilities are... well... possible.

Until next time...

GeekFlix is moving in...

First off, I am glad to say I have returned from my rather long and busy week away from the guys. For anyone asking yes, my comic is complete and headed to its finishing touches (cover and back mostly) and will now hopefully lead to a publishing company. Well enough about me, time to get into important matters.

Anyone over here know GeekFlix? GeekFlix (full title is GeekBeerz Flix but we call it GeekFlix for short) is where we handle all the Movie and TV business, to keep other non-gamers busy with what they wan to know about. It has been slow for some time but it has all been slow for a reason.

GeekFlix is pretty much moving in with GeekBeerz! Now the GeekFlix site won't be gone in any way whatsoever, but it will now forever only have reviews for posts instead. All Movie or TV news will now and forever be posted on this site, while movie and TV reviews will have a link to send you to its GeekFlix review page. Not only will this make things easier on me and the others, but it will also help us bring out more and more posts in the near future.

Not only that, but the planned GeekFlix podcast, planned for starring me and Bergy respectively, will also be announced and linked to this site when the podcasts start up. This new podcast series will focus on movie, TV, and actor related news as well as having entertaining new segments per episode in order to figure out which ones work best. The new episodes are planned to only last for and hour and a half each.
