Everyone who complains about a multitude of hero films every year should really shut up now. With Marvel's Avenger related plans and DC's upcoming plans, we can expect to see Supers on the big screen for eons to come!
This year we have four big screen premieres for Supers, three sequels and one a reboot. Which ones do you think will dominate in terms of fanbase, box office, whatever?
IRON MAN 3 (releases May 3rd 2013)
Iron Man 3 is the first film to bring about the second Phase of Pre-Avenger solo films after the events of the first Avengers film, so it clearly has a lot to live up to. Both Marvel and Disney have done quite an awesome job at keeping a majority of plot points secret, even in their trailers and such. The simple fact of knowing Tony Stark's true, original arch nemesis, the Mandarin is going to appear is more than enough to make fans rush to the theaters. Also the simple fact that this third entry is quite easily the darkest film made yet (in the Iron Man franchise that is) makes it all the more intriguing.
Like I said, this film has a lot to live up to and so far it looks to be keeping its promise. Will it be bad? Doubt it. Heck even Marvel's lowest and weakest money making film in the series, the Incredible Hulk, was still an awesome film despite being the weakest when compared to the other films in the Avengers line up. And while a few didn't exactly like the second Iron Man film (why!? I'll never know or understand) this third one will be sure to dominate!
KICK-A$$ 2 (releases June 28th 2013)
Yes, we are including this film too. The simple fact that every single human who has witnessed the first one loves it is enough to make a worthy sequel. It's also awesome to see they have the entire cast back as well as newcomers Jim Carrey (as Colonel Stars and Stripes) and Donald Faison (as Dr. Gravity) as well as many others. While no trailer or teaser has surfaced yet (as far as I know) we can still be assured a movie as awesome and as funny as the original.
This will be a great film and make good money, but it won't be as great compared to the other films. Why? It's clear that this film will most likely be another R rating. R rated films almost always never make the same amount of money as other ratings do simply due to the restrictions and maturity. While on a small occasion a film that's R rated could make great money at the box office, the possibilities are never that high to begin with. So while I hope the film dominates, it may be doubtful when this film is the only non-Marvel / non-DC super flick to take on tough competitors. Again, that's just a matter of opinion.
MAN OF STEEL (releases June 14th 2013)
Here is DC's ultimate coin toss. The superman reboot should surely capture the appeal of audience, and not just because Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and Christopher Nolan (the Dark Knight trilogy) are making it happen. Superman has literally not had a good movie since the first film (from waaay back in the 70's I believe) and many people were devastated with the Superman Returns film, which tried to continue where the older films left off. But now we finally have a rebooted coming. Will it succeed the super's bad past or will it join the bad roster?
The film looks to be brilliant in my opinion, it seems to have that same serious origin feel that helped Batman Begins become an excellent beginning of a trilogy. I personally believe this is what DC should now and forever make, awesome origin stories and complete trilogies for each of their DC heroes, none of this "Justice League because we're intimidated by Marvel's Avengers" crap. But personally I fear that this film will for the brief weeks of its release, fail to make money due to the scars from Superman Returns. Then again, Hulk was in a similar mess after Ang Lee's horrendous film, but he managed to get out of the gutter. So maybe, just maybe...
THOR THE DARK WORLD (releases November 8th 2013)
The first Thor film had to succeed by making us believe this universe can exist with Iron Man's and Captain America's, which it definitely did! Now the sequel has to successfully introduce the other six realms into the
universe (nine realms total like the Norse Mythology, three have already been introduced). We can easily expect an awesome fantasy adventure headed our way, why? Because the brilliant creator of the Game of Thrones TV series is directing this bad boy! Having Christopher Eccleston as Malekith the accursed also rocks!
There is easily no flaws I see in this since the biggest possible flaw was saved in the first film. The only real flaw I can see is having this film release in November. Sure fantasy films are great for the winter months but this is seen as a Super flick! I don't think a Super hero film has ever even been released in the winter, has there?
So which super movie do you think will be your favorite this year? Which ones can you not wait for? Which do you think in any particular reason will dominate this year? Please vote in the poll or comment!
There is no need for this post, everyone knows ironman3 will win!
