Pokemon X and Y will release on October 12th. Unlike the last released games, which have only changed through graphics and Pokemon respectively, this one is going to revolutionize Pokemon into something we never saw coming, and that's a good thing! But what do we know so far about this first Main game Pokemon 3DS release?
Here's what we know so far:
- this is the first Pokemon game on handheld to be fully introduced with 3D Polygonal graphics, allowing for more interactivity with the over-world and more dynamic action during battles.
- the new region that the game takes place in is in the "Kalos Region", which is based after France. Employees from Gamefreak actually went to France in order to become familiar and interested with the surroundings.
- you can customize your trainer character beyond the usual male and female choice! now you can choose skin tone and even acquire new outfits throughout the game to give your trainer a unique look.
- your starter Pokemon are Chespin (grass), Fennekin (fire), and Froakie (water). their middle evolutions have also been revealed, Chespin evolves into Quilladin, Fennekin into Braixen, and Froakie into Frogadier. Their final evolutions have not been revealed yet, however their secondary types are being strongly rumored by fans. Chespins final evolutions might be a grass/rock or grass/ground, Fennekin a fire/fairy or fire/psychic, and Froakies a water/fighting although nothing has been confirmed or denied at this point.
- speaking of types, there is a brand new type being introduced known as Fairy type. It is said that this type is strong and immune against dragon types. It is also resistant to bug, fighting, and dark types as well as also super effective towards dark and fighting, however it is very weak to poison and steel types. And is not very effective against fire either as revealed by marriland.
- the new legendary Pokemon are known as Xerneas and Yveltal, Xerneas is a pure fairy type while Yveltal is dark/flying type. this is the first time dragon type legendaries were not the main two legendaries for a new generation since Gen III. Xerneas is said to be the "life Pokemon" while Yveltal is the "destruction Pokemon".
- the is a new battle strategy and game changer in this generation known as Mega Evolutions. this is when high level Pokemon from across all six generations are able to evolve to another more powerful form, even third stage levels. this changes the look, stats, and even the types of various Pokemon capable of doing this. It is said that you can mega evolve only once per battle. the only mega evolutions revealed so far are Mega Venasaur, Mega Charizard, Mega Blastoise, Mega Mewtwo X, Mega Mewtwo Y, Mega Kangaskan, Mega Ampharos, Mega Blaziken, Mega Mawile, Mega Absol, Mega Lucario, and Mega Garchomp. We can expect a lot more mega evolutions to appear soon, specifically all starter Pokemon should have mega forms. each evolution is through a process of new mega stones that are each specifically unique to one Pokemon over another (example: Mega Blaziken requires a Blazikenite while Mega Lucario requires a Lucarionite). It is said that these Mega forms grant the Pokemon a powerful attack only gained through Mega-lution.
- most of the older Pokemon from past generations will be upgraded with secondary fairy type in their DNA, now Marill is a water/fairy type. confirmed Pokemon with type changes currently are Marill, Jigglypuff, Gardevoir and Mawile. Other should be revealed soon.
- we know that the Pokedex for this generation is so large that it has been split into three different sections for the entire region. we can expect a lot of new Pokemon as well as a majority of past gen Pokemon too.
- you are able to ride certain Pokemon in this new game! So far we know that Rhyhorn, Skiddo, and Gogoat are able to be ridden depending on the location.
- this is a new power called the O power which allows you to increase stats during a battle and even experience, you can also share your O power with friends via internet.
- you can have two starter Pokemon on your journey! While Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie are the main starters for your journey, you are also able to get the original Kanto starters Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle! Through a monthly free download, prior to the games release, you can also get a free Torchic, so technically three starters!
- there will be even more extreme gender differences in these games for specific Pokemon, so far Meowstic and Pyroar are the only ones with confirmed gender difference.
- there will be specific Pokemon exclusive to either X or Y, the biggest exclusivity amongst them is the two different Mega Forms for Mewtwo. In X, you get a psychic/fighting type Mega form while you get a pure psychic type in Y.
- Sylveon is the newest Eevee evolution, it is a fairy type. It is strongly rumored that one more Eevee evolution will be revealed, which isn't surprising since Eevee evolutions always come in pairs, perhaps the next one will be dragon type?
- there is a new gang similar to team rocket, plasma, magma, etc. known as team flare.
- there is an online Pokemon gimmick coming out simply known as the Pokemon Bank. by paying a small fee, you can store up to 3,000 Pokemon in the bank and you are also able to transfer your older Pokemon from the previous games onto X and Y, which requires a special app known as the Poke Transporter. the bank will also allow you to manage your stored Pokemon by groupings such as types or species, and it apparently will have incredibly strong protection against cheaters and hackers.
- like with every new Gen, there will definitely be new Attacks, Abilities, and even upgraded previous Attacks.
- this is the first time ever that a Pokemon game has released worldwide on the same day as opposed to Japan getting copies first and whatnot.
I can assure you there are even more new things to know about these games. I'm excited, and you should be too!
Until next time...
