Prototype Developers DEAD... R.I.P

The company that brought you the Prototype games, Radical Entertainment, has literally been Axed personally by Activision. It wasn't Activision's smartest idea but the Prototype games weren't exactly excellent either.

Mostly due to massive layoffs, any remaining members of Radical are now forced into doing other Activision properties. But it is never a good day when a game company dies. This may be as depressing as Sony cancelling Zipper interactive.

in Loving Memory of Radical Entertainment
1991 - 2012

Games they brought us:
Prototype
Prototype 2
Crash Bandicoot (3 games)

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning 2 was to be, but Not anymore...

The first Amalur game did fairly well, which is why Big Huge Games was having a sequel in the works. Well not anymore! Mostly because the studio is, and will be, in Jeopardy.

Joystiq reports that, though Big Huge Games team could still be saved, it is unlikely that work could continue on Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning 2. The intellectual property is owned by 38 Studios, but could soon be in possession of Rhode Island.

Work being done on the sequel included improving graphical quality, removing loading times between zones, more combat animations, more branching quests, and greater player impact on the world of Amalur.

Does this make anyone sad? Do you think Kingdoms of Amalur deserved a sequel? Do you even know what Kingdoms of Amalur is?

the PSP is basically Dead

Yes the handheld is still a huge hit in Japan, but what is its status in America? Or anywhere else for that matter? Reports have revealed that a majority of smaller Gamestop stores are getting rid of anything that is PSP or PSP related for the sake of bringing in the new products such as games for the Vita, 3DS, and even early preparation for the Wii U.

This was clearly going to happen sooner or later, Sony has done very little with the Portable for the last two years or more. It is now clear that Sony has all its handheld interests in the Vita, and that PSP would just die off similar to how the DS killed the Gameboy, or how the 3DS will potentially kill off the original DS...

Despite all this, a few of the Larger Gamestop stores will still have PSP products, but they'll forever be seen as an old school product possibly next to the PS2 and PS one games.

Why the Halo movie failed to see the light of day

Halo is huge, really huge. So it's no wonder that Microsoft had high hopes for a movie to be made based on their major juggernaut, but sadly their first attempts failed. But was it really Hollywood's fault for why the film never saw the light of day? The article that explains the reasoning is quite large and too explanitory to say on this post, but I will say that Microsoft really needs to get off its High Horse.

Let's hope that the movie will still, eventually, see the light of day in the future.

Prey 2 has not been worked on since November...

It's good to know that Prey 2 has not been canceled and will be expected sometime in 2013, but why the major rumors of it being canceled? well since the game was put on hold since November, one could easily jump to conclusions.

Prey 2 has been in turmoil for quite some time. Apparently, Human Head was unhappy with its contract with ZeniMax and performed a sort of mutiny, pausing the game's development in hopes of working out a better deal. In the meantime, developers were laid off with hopes that they would be able to return once a settlement was reached.

If anyone remembers, the first Prey was also in Limbo hell for nearly ten years before it was finally released on the 360. So will the game finally get released in 2013, or will it continue to delay until it gets released on the next generation consoles?

Prey 2 Delayed

[UPDATE]
Bethesda has confirmed this morning that Prey 2 is not cancelled, but has been delayed. Here's what they said:
Development of Prey 2 has not been cancelled but the game will not be released in 2012 as planned. The delay is due to the fact that game development has not progressed satisfactorily this past year, and the game does not currently meet our quality standards. Prey 2 has shown great promise and we regret disappointing our fans. We have made a substantial investment in game development to deliver the experience fans want. We are determined only to release the AAA game that fans rightfully expect, and are unwilling to compromise our quality standards to meet a release schedule.
It's good to see that a great looking game like this isn't getting thrown on the scrap heap. If all goes well, we'll see Prey 2 on store shelves in 2013.

[ORIGINAL POST]
This rumor has been floating around in a few people's minds for a while. It all started with Zenimax pulling information about Prey 2 was withdrawn from this year's GDC.

The rumor is becoming more possible with today's reveal from Dutch gaming site PS Focus. According to their inside source, Bethesda will announce the cancellation next week. There is a possibility this isn't true, and I'm hoping it isn't. I've been incredibly excited for this game ever since they showed the game in motion last E3.

I'm not the only one excited. There have been many sites that have had good things to say about, including 4Player Podcast who gave it their Game of the Show award last year. It's a shame to see such a promising title possibly not seeing the light of day. We'll update when Bethesda makes their announcement next week. Here's some gameplay of Prey 2:
